Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For the first time I have decided to try and undertake a challenge to try and raise money for a charity extremely close to my heart - the UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund.
My Grandma died of Systemic Amyloidosis in 2014 within weeks of her diagnosis and 5 weeks before my wedding . Systemic Amyloidosis is a devastating incurable disease which can affect anyone of any age and can only be treated via chemotherapy and is similar to cancer in its mechanism. The UK has one national centre for Amyloidosis based at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead which is part of University College London. My Grandma was treated here and received excellent care and treatment but there desperately needs to be more research into this disease so that the disease can be better understood and a cure found. Many people are not accurately diagnosed until it is too late.
I am going to run 4 half marathons in 4 weeks followed by a 10 mile race! Anyone who knows my injury history will know this is a serious challenge for me which I hope to finish with my body intact!! I am hoping to complete the Reigate, Ealing, Basingstoke and Oxford Half Marathons with Oxford having special significance for me as it is the city where my Grandma lived and I have so many happy memories of spending time with her there. I will end my challenge by running the Cabbage Patch 10 Race in Twickenham.
I would really appreciate any donations however small.
