Story

At Kinsley’s one month check up her pediatrician heard a heart murmur.  At that point, she began seeing a pediatric cardiologist who found that she had a hole in her heart.  He wanted to watch her a few months to see if her body would heal on its own. By the time he saw her again at her 2 month check up, Kinsley was malnourished and deemed failure to thrive due to her heart overworking to pump blood to her tiny body.  2 weeks later this sweet, little two month old was having open heart surgery to repair the congenital heart defect that she was born with.

Since then Kinsley has required early intervention to ensure that she thrives after her surgery and met her milestones. She was a late crawler and Walker, but Kinsley was a warrior.  She sees an endocrinologist, cardiologist, genetics, behavioral pediatrician, and her regular pediatrician.

Kinsley now receives early intervention services through the Bell Center. They are teaching Kinsley every day life skills, helping to improve her motor function, and helping her to speak.  When Kinsley arrives to the Bell Center she runs to the door and into the arms of her sweet, caring therapist without glancing back.  She loves the Bell Center, and I can tell that her therapists and instructors love her as well.  They celebrate her for every small victory, and that truly means a lot.  We are so glad to be a part of this foundation.

The Bell Center is dedicated to maximizing the potential of children from birth to three years of age who are at risk for developmental delay. The staff of The Bell Center begins the work of maximizing a childs potential as soon as the child is evaluated. This evaluation assesses a childs strengths and weaknesses across five developmental domains: gross motor, fine motor, expressive and receptive language, cognition and emotional/social. From this assessment, each member of the childs transdisciplinary team develops goals in each area specific to that child. The Bell Center follows a transdisciplinary approach to providing early intervention services. This allows all areas of the childs development to be targeted every time they are at The Bell Center. Through this frequent targeting of developmental goals comes success as goals are achieved. As one goal is mastered, the next appropriate goal is is targeted, ensuring that the child is always striving to maximize their potential.
