From Desk Jockey To IRONMAN In Less Than 5 Months
How about this for a challenge. On 11th September 2016 Kingston Barnes’ very own James Kingston will be taking part in a monumental task by competing in Ironman 70.3.
The event is not for the faint hearted - Starting with a 1.2 mile swim in Weymouth Bay, followed by a 56 mile bike ride and finishing with a half marathon run of 13.1 miles. This event really pushes athletes, so for a desk jockey this is a huge challenge that really does goes “Above & Beyond”.
This is a wonderful addition to our campaign to raise vital funds for Above & Beyond Charity (Reg. No. 229945) who make a real
difference to patient care in Bristol’s nine city centre hospitals. We are
working towards a goal of raising £1,475 in order to help. If we raise the full £1,475 James Kingston will match it and double the amount to £2,950. This will put our total fundraising to over £7,500 and if achieved will complete our goal to refurbish the Sensory Room at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
James has already begun intense training for the event and will continue to work towards the level of fitness required to take part in the 7-8 hour gruelling challenge. #triing
When asked why this challenge James Kingston said “ I am just an ordinary person but I wanted to do something extraordinary, push myself further than I think I can go. It’s no different than when I set up Kingston Barnes in 2013, and now look what we have accomplished. Who would have thought that was possible? Seeing children fighting for their lives and the pain they go through day in day out puts it all in perspective. I want to do something that really pushes me, which will hopefully inspire others and ultimately raise as much money as possible for a really great cause.”
