In Loving Memory of Dean

VHI Women's Virtual Mini Marathon · 1 October 2020 to 10 October 2020 ·
Two years ago, we lost my beautiful brother, Dean, to suicide. On the 3rd of January, 2018, the lives of myself and my family changed forever. Dean was a very special person. He always had a compelling warmth about him, with a unique ability to instantly bring a smile to the faces of those around him. He lit up every room he walked into with his infectious laugh and incredible personality. He was capable of making you feel like you were the most important person in the world. As a big brother, Dean was always supportive, fun and fiercely loyal. His huge heart and generous soul touched everyone who met him. It was clear to see how much of a genuine impact that Dean made on people's lives with the overwhelming amount of people who turned up on his final few days to remember him and share fond memories.
On paper, some might say that Dean had it all. Popular, handsome, funny, successful, caring, intelligent, athletic. You name it, Dean had it. He was passionate about his career working as a chemical engineer with many companies all over the world. He spent his 31 precious years on this earth filling his life with fun and adventures. However, mental health issues can affect anyone, and Dean is the perfect example of that. We hope he knew how loved he was and we miss him dearly every single day.
I have decided to take part in this years virtual VHI Womens Mini Marathon on the 1st of October with the hope of raising much needed funds for Pieta House. My intended route is to run around the back roads of Durrow, where we grew up and share many special memories together with my two sisters. I hope that by raising funds, it can enable Pieta to continue the amazing work that they do, helping families like they helped mine. Without massive fundraisers such as ‘Darkness into Light’ this year, they need all the help that they can get. As over 80% of Pieta House’ income comes from fundraising events, they rely heavily on the support of volunteers and friends. If this fundraiser could help even one person to cope with their grief or to deal with troubles that they may have, I would be extremely grateful. I would really appreciate your help in reaching my goal.
In pure Dean Cobbe style, I will give 110% and promise to give nothing less than my best. No doubt it could ever be as good or as fast as him, though!
Hope you're proud up there, ‘big bro’ x
