Story
Thanks for visiting my Race for Life page.
Why am I fundraising for Cancer Research UK and running the Race for Life? Two reasons; I need motivation and they need support.
In September 2013 I decided enough was enough, it was time to get my head out of the sand and lose some weight so I joined Slimming World (there… my big secret is out!). To date (January 2014) I’ve lost just over two stone and decided it was time to get off my couch and get moving. Inspired by some lovely ladies I decided to take on the “Couch to 5k” challenge and I’ve just completed the first week.
That’s right, I’ve JUST completed the FIRST week and I’ve made the commitment to be running 5k in June 2014 by signing up for the Race for Life. Nothing like a deadline to motivate and spur me on especially as running doesn’t come naturally to me (think more elephant thumping than gazelle skipping along!).
Each donation received will be a big cheer of ‘you can do it’ for me but it will also support a great charity who rely solely on public donations. There are a lot of people ‘on the job’ trying to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer with more than 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses supported in their research across the UK by Cancer Research UK. There are over 200 types of cancer each with their own causes, symptoms and treatments so it is vital that research continues to ensure more people have the best chance possible to survive their diagnosis.
I’ll be updating you all on my progress but as a bench mark my week one statistics (excluding my warm up/cool down walks) are that I run 2.38k during the running/walking intervals. I have a long way to go!
Sponsoring me online is quick, easy and totally secure. Click the 'Donate' button at the top right of this page and if you're a UK taxpayer, please remember to Gift Aid It! Just tick the Gift Aid box and this will increase your donation by at least 25% at no cost to you.
Thank you
Kimberley
