Story
As most of you know my husband, Andrew Kennedy was tragically killed on 29th August 2009 in a road traffic collision. Andrew was loved my so many, including myself, family and many of his friends. Andrew is sadly missed by all who knew him, as he was a tremendous inspiration to others.
Since 2010, myself and a group of Andrew's close friends have raised almost £4000 for the Charity, Brake whilst taking part in various fundraising events including the Manchester 10k in 2010, Leeds Half Marathon 2010 , Great North Run 2010, Edinburgh Marathon 2011 and walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks. After being injured whilst running the Edinburgh Marathon 2011, I have again decided to have another bash at the 26.2 miles despite the ongoing difficulties with my patella.
This year I am running the marathon with two amazing friends (Kat and Irfan) who are both raising money for cancer charites. If it were not for these two, I probably would have given up on my training by now! Although I do know that this will be the last full marathon that I will be running. I do however know that my close family and friends are probably thinking "yeah whatever", as I said exactly the same thing in May 2011!
The training over the last few weeks has not been easy, but I am positive that Andrew and also my Dad will give me the strength to get through the 26.2 miles again, whether I am injured or not. I am therefore again please asking people to sponsor Team Kens for a third year, so that further money can be raised for the road safety charity, Brake who work with victims and families who have been bereaved or injured through road traffic accidents.
"Every 30 seconds someone, somewhere in the world, is killed in a road crash. The misery of road deaths and injuries and the pollution caused by vehicles is a shameful epidemic that must end".
