Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am supporting Hospice in the Weald in their fundraising Tandem Skydive event because I have first-hand experience in the fantastic work they undertake.
They provide palliative care and support for those with life-limiting illness, with services based on need rather than an ability to pay - their service is provided free of charge to patients. They rely solely on funding to keep their amazing service going and it takes £4 - 5 million a year to keep this fantastic centre running. Based in Pembury, Kent, the centre comprises a 17-bed in-patient unit and a daycare facility; where they offer a range of treatments, complementary therapies and clinics. They provide a homely facility with the most amazing support and care to both patients and family.
My father initially spent 2 weeks in this centre following a lengthy time within the Critical Care and Cancer Ward at Guys Hospital. I have no doubt that the time he had at the Hospice helped to lengthen the time that we - his family - had with him. He was happy with the homely atmosphere and services provided. And, when he sadly returned to the Centre for his final moments, we, as a family, had the quality time to be with him, whilst the staff gave us the care and support that we then required in our loss.
I cannot praise this facility enough. Most people will go through a similar situation at some point in their lives and places like these need our support to keep on going. Please help in keeping such facilities working.
I am terrified of leaping from a plane at 12,000 feet, but it will be worthwhile if I can raise some much-needed money for such a fanastic Centre and in the process do it all in the memory of my late father - Chris Collins.
