Story
In 2007, aged just 11, Ellie was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma. A brain tumour. She was given 6 – 12 months to live.
She underwent a 7 & a half hour operation to remove the tumour, followed by radiotherapy and 26 months of chemotherapy.
Ellie used homeopathy and reflexology, both of which helped her through it all; as well as setting herself regular targets such as shopping trips (!) and fund raising.
In 2008 Ellie raised almost £10 000 which she split between charities close to her heart.
In 2009, Ellie developed another brain tumour.
Towards the end of the year she inspired a song, which she recorded and sold for Ali’s Dream, children’s brain tumour research charity. The total from this currently stands at over £5200, and money continues to come in…
Ellie lost her fight against her brain tumour on Valentine’s Day 2010, after a courageous and dignified 3 year battle.
Ellie’s family and friends are determined to keep her memory alive, and continue raising much needed funds in her name.
ALI’S DREAM – are a children’s brain tumour research charity. They raise funds for research into WHY. Why more children die of brain tumours than of any other cancer…
And for research into TREATMENT.
33% more children died of a brain tumour in 2007, than in 2001.
There are 16 000 new cases every year.
Five year survival is still only 14%
When it was suggested that we start raising money in Ellie’s name little did we realise that we would be jumping out of a plane!!
‘Ellie’s Skydive’ takes place on at Grindale near Bridlington, .
We are aiming high! We hope to raise £750 each. All the proceeds of our jump will go to Ali’s Dream, children’s brain tumour research charity.
