The Great North Run is firmly established as the UK’s most popular half marathon, runners travel from far and wide to be part of this fantastic event.

Story

Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.

Neither of us are runners to say the least, infact it’s fair to say we hate running! This is going to be hard! Since getting places we’ve experienced many hurdles from knee damage snowboarding to shin splints and plantar fasciitis. Training is slow but we’re determined to do this as whatever we go through is nothing compared to losing your sight.

Thank you for your support we really do appreciate it and it will keep us going on the day!

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
