Story
COPS provides peer support opportunities and access to counselling services to help surviving family members (‘survivors’) rebuild their shattered lives."Your loss is a part of who you are but COPS helps you realise that it doesn’t define you. We are all one big family."Since its foundation in 2003, COPS has helped hundreds of police families devastated by the loss of a loved one who died on duty.
Each July, to coincide with the UK COPS Survivors weekend held at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, the UK Police Unity Tour cycle to honour the service and sacrifice of Fallen UK Police Officers.
The primary purpose of the UK Police Unity Tour is to raise funds for COPS (Care of Police Survivors - Registered Charity no 1101478) and to raise awareness of charity.
The Unity Tour raises much needed funds for UK Care of Police Survivors who support families of officers killed in the line of duty and to date the tour has raised over £450,000. The Tour is much more than just raising funds. The Tour is a chance to collectively ride in memory of fallen officers, to show that we as a Police Service will never forget officers sacrifice, raise awareness in communities and show family members that we care.
This is the third year Bedfordshire Police have had their own chapter of the National Event that is the Police Unity Tour. And builds on the success of last years ride.
This year Chris and I along with our fellow officers will ride over 205 miles in 3 days cumulating in the UK COPS service of remembrance at The National Memorial Arboretum.
