Update - We walked on the roof of Africa! It was a physical and mental challenge but all our hard training has paid off and we have enjoyed the sunrise at Uhuru Peak, a stunning 5895 meters above sea level! Thank you all for your support and kind words!
In just a few weeks my friends Mladen (Mo) and Irena are traveling with me to Tanzania with the goal of summiting the highest free standing mountain in the world and the highest peak of the African continent, Mount Kilimanjaro at 5895m. Mo and Irena have climbed the Everest base Camp in November last year and have encouraged me in joining them for this upcoming challenge. We are not just aiming to climb a mountain. We want to inspire other people to strive to achieve their best in every aspect of their lives while enjoying the journey and to aim higher and step out of their comfort zone, as we will do during this trek. We are passionate about helping people with disabilities in our community that are working at Acorn and by raising funds we want to improve their working conditions in the Acorn plant nursery.
Acorn Enterprises, which includes Reuse, the plant nursery and the Woodshack, offers meaningful work and training opportunities to people with a disability or long-term health condition. Acorn’s most recent venture, Reuse, benefits the environment, and helps low-income families and other charities too. Every penny they make goes back into life-changing opportunities for their clients.
Supporting Acorn represents an investment in the whole community, ensuring meaningful training and employment opportunities for people with a disability or long-term health condition. It means that everyone is given the chance to reach their full potential and to grow and aim higher.
