Row Challenge - September

This is the fourth in a series of challenges being undertaken by members of the Torbay Lifeboat Crew culminating with the climbing of Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2023.
Our rowing team, led by Roger Good, rowed the entire 60-mile length of the Caledonian Canal and the lochs that stretch continuously from the East to West coast of Scotland and is a tribute to our RNLI forefathers.
Rowing is a rather exhausting sport. Especially if you have never done it before. The team spent many evenings over the summer training in the Bay, manoeuvring and rowing a 32 feet gig that was kindly loaned by Brixham Gig Rowing Club.
"Nothing can really prepare you for the awesomeness of Scotland's lochs. The surrounding scenery is staggeringly beautiful, which helps distract you from the many hours pulling those very long gig oars" said Roger Good, team leader for the rowers.
“I has required a fair bit of skill and planty of practice, all of which makes you appreciate what heroes our forefathers were in the RNLI before motorised lifeboats became available. I hope we did them proud"
If that wasn't enough, on the final day in Scotland, Roger led the team up Ben Nevis. "It's only a quarter the height of Kilimanjaro, which we will climb in February, but it's still good practice and was an opportunity not to be missed." Expalined the team leader.
