Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In October 2013 I was approached by work colleagues to take part in the Liverpool Half Marathon alongside other work colleagues and my cousin. Anyone who knows me will agree I have always been someone who is not particularly a fitness fanatic and other than a couple of games of five a side a week, I have always found it difficult to stay motivated and stick to any sort of gym or fitness plan for very long.
With very little previous running or sustained aerobic endurance experiences under my belt other that a 10k run about 4 years ago I reluctantly signed up, and despite all my good intentions of how I could conquer a half marathon I honestly believed at the back of my mind this would be an unachievable goal for me.
Starting out with 3 and four mile runs that where pushing me to my limits I thought about giving in at the first hurdle, however the motivation to push myself with the goal of achieving something I didn’t believe would be possible spurred me to carry on, and I continued running 3-4 times a week pushing myself a little more each time.
Now a couple of months on I am now starting to believe in myself and have seen a dramatic change in my fitness. Starting out gasping for air after a 3 mile run I am now hitting the 8 miles with breath to spare. My training is right on track and I am feeling confident and motivated that I can actually do this. However there is still a long way to go and the coming weeks of training are going to be tough and push me harder than I have ever though I would be able to, that’s where you come in…….
I need the support of all my friends and family if I am to achieve my goal of completing the Liverpool half marathon on the 23 May 2014, your support will keep me motivated and on track right until the finish line. To keep me inspired I have signed up to support the North West Cancer research fund as part of my efforts.
Cancer is a disease which has impacted on so many of our lives none more so than that of my family over the years. Having experienced so many close to me suffer and battle different types of Cancer throughout my life I know how it can impact on not only those battling the disease but also the friends and family closest to them. Finding cures and preventions to this awful disease is something which I fully support and prey for one day. For this reason The North West Cancer research fund is a charity which I fully support and I hope you can too?
NWCR raises all its funds in the North West and North Wales to fund research into all types of cancer, the mechanisms by which they arise, and the way they exert their effects. Their research is carried out at three Universities in the area, the University of Liverpool, the Lancaster University and Bangor University. Almost all of their funds are raised by volunteers who work tirelessly with almost 90p in every £1 going directly into research.
I hope you can support me in achieving my goal of completing the Liverpool Half Marathon by helping me raising funds for my charity and supporting me all the way.I have just over five weeks until the race day and hope to raise as much as possibe in this time. I ask you please support me in any way you can by donating whatever you can afford.
I will update my progress as weeks get closer
Thank you all
