Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
My name is Kieren, I am a 27 year old police officer. I suffered two mini strokes (TIA) in August 2020. This has affected my vision long term, however I am able to function and still continue with work and daily activities. I am still in the recovery stage, however over the last few months I have recovered quite well. Due to not doing much exercise over the last couple of months, I have today 10/11/20 began the couch to 5K to try and make myself fit again. I intend to run at least 3 times a week in line with the scheme which will last for 9 weeks and I thought that I would like to try and raise some money for the Stroke Association due to my personal connection and there are people who could benefit from whatever money I can raise. I would also like to use this opportunity to raise awareness that anyone both young and old can be subject to strokes. This will also give the couch to 5K more meaning rather than just my health and well being.
In January 2021 I suffered a Ischemic Stroke which resulted in right sided weakness and slurred speech. This was due to a rare blood condition Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) which essentially means people with APS are at higher risk of developing blood clots. A blood clot in the left side of my brain resulted in the stroke.
When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. That's because a stroke happens in the brain, the control centre for who we are and what we can do. It happens every five minutes in the UK and changes lives instantly. The Stroke Association is here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. They believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke. And its a team effort to get there.Their specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community and the generosity of amazing people like you.Did you know that: £17 could pay to run the My Stroke Guide helpline for an hour, helping anyone whose life has been affected by any type of stroke get the expert advice they need £29 could pay for someone to receive emotional support from our Stroke Helpline £50 could held fund research to find new ways to help stroke survivors with communication difficulties.
Thank you for your support.
