Story
While the UK is facing an unprecedented health crisis there is also an increasing crisis in the stark rise of domestic violence as a result of the pandemic. Many women's refuges around the UK are completely full, with families not being able to move on due to lockdown measures. Social distancing measures have compounded the extreme isolation many of these children already face, with most living through this crisis restricted to a single room with their mother and siblings. In the coming weeks and months more mothers and children will require the sanctuary of a women's refuge. KidsOut needs your help more than ever to support these children, helping them to enjoy fun a happiness in their lives.
While the Coronavirus outbreak has precipitated a sharp increase in the use of food banks, just under 15% of the 317 Women's Aid refuges supported by KidsOut are currently receiving assistance from local food banks. This equates to 3,260 families in refuge not being covered by a food bank. The families we support need our help more than ever. There's been a 25% increase in calls to refuges which unfortunately are all nearly full.
KidsOut however will be there to support these children and families, by bringing them fun and happiness through toys and other activities. So far, we have provided every family in refuge with £25 supermarket vouchers and every child in Women's Aid refuge with over £100 worth of toys. We will continue to support them in these unprecedented times through our KidsIn campaign, https://www.kidsout.org.uk/kidsin/, and with more funds we can build further upon the work we have already done.
You can help bring fun and happiness to children facing domestic abuse by donating to KidsOut today!
Thank you for your support,
