Tom Walks 1000 Miles for Kidneys
Kidney Tom is raising money for Kidney Research UK
Story
Starting on the 21st August, I am attempting to walk 1000 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats for Kidney Research UK.
Inspired by the fundraising hero Sir Captain Tom, who raised £32.5 million for the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic, I am setting out to raise awareness that thousands of UK charities have lost over 50% of their funding over the last 18 months, due to the Covid-19 pandemic
As someone born with 4 kidneys, a condition that occurs some in fewer than 1 in 10,000 people, I am challenging myself to raise £10,000 in support of lifesaving research for over 3 million people diagnosed with chronic kidney disease each year in the UK - so that many others can benefit from the excellent NHS care I received at 9 months old.
