Story
The Royal Free Charity, in partnership with Mr Faiz Mumtaz and the Lions Club of Enfield, invite you to support our fundraising appeal for a new, dedicated kidney cancer research laboratory. The new lab will be based in the Pears building at the Royal Free Hospital, within the world leading UCL Institute of Immunology and Transplantation
The number of patients diagnosed with kidney cancer has more than doubled in the past 40 years and is steadily increasing. It is now one of the 10 most common cancers, and more than 14,000 people in the UK suffer from the disease annually. Sadly, less than 10% of patients presenting with advanced disease survive 5 years.
“The kidney cancer research laboratory will provide an outstanding environment to perform cutting-edge translational research. It will bring together the development of new diagnostic tools and novel treatment strategies for the benefit of kidney cancer patients in our community and worldwide" - Faiz Mumtaz, Senior kidney cancer surgeon, Royal Free Hospital; and Immediate Past President, Lions Club of Enfield (2019/20)
We are pleased to announce that a single donation of £300,000 has been received for establishing the laboratory.
We are now seeking to raise £240,000 to acquire additional specialist equipment and start the much needed research program by the appointment of two research scientists.
Together with your support we can raise the remaining funds, and so please give generously to support this vital work.
