Story
So when Lucy sent me an Instagram post by The Big Fight UK whilst she was on holiday and I was left (unsupervised!) home alone; I'm sure she didn't expect me to sign up... I mean, I didn't expect me to sign up...
Marathons, sure. Even an ultra, bring it on. A smorgasbord of classes around London, sounds like fun!
But kickboxing? Real amateur kickboxing, in a ring, in front of a packed out Clapham Grand on the evening of Thursday 4 October 2018?
Well that's something else entirely.
However, one trip to Durrant's Gym, up on York Way, meeting Jon and the other heroes (fools?) who had signed up, and I was hooked. 10 weeks of training and then 3x 2min rounds in the most intense event of my life, how could I say no!
Plus 10 weeks is ages right?
SPOILER ALERT: it isn't...
Plus what better present can Lucy ask for, just two days before her birthday...
Stay tuned for (sporadic, bruised, infrequent, overenthusiastic, terrified, excited, all of the above) updates!
But first - what are we all doing this for?
Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. Over 11,000 men die every year in the UK and the number increases every year. The Mission of PCRC is to develop new therapy for men with advanced prostate cancer. The immediate goal is to increase survival and their vision is a cure for the disease. Every pound raised will help PCRC achieve their vision.
With that in mind, please feel free to donate via this page, if you'd like to help a great cause, and/or find the thought of my jumping in a ring with all the gear and no idea amusing...
Similarly, for those who really want to get close to the action - I've got a ticket with your name on it! All I ask for is £25, big smiles, big cheers, and most likely a big drink afterwards...
