Story

September 2019 will see Kate and Keith throwing themselves at the mercy of the world's tallest free standing mountain, partly because Keith has always wanted to climb a mountain, partly because torturing Kate is Keith's favourite past-time but MOSTLY because it is for a wonderful cause.

Perennial is the only UK charity that is dedicated to giving horticulturists of all ages free and confidential advice and financial support in times of need or crisis, this support extends to spouses and children also. Perennial relies on the support of the UK horticulture industry and the garden-loving public to continue its work.

“Our help for people in horticulture is so often described as a lifeline. We work with people who are coping with life’s challenges everyday, often without a support team around them. The Kilimanjaro Trek for Perennial this year offers our fundraisers an incredible opportunity to experience one of the world’s most iconic mountain ranges and raise money to support people coping with everyday uphill climbs. We’re thrilled to have Keith and Kate on board for this challenge and look forward to following their preparation and training over the coming months.” - Chris Crooker, Events Manager at Perennial.

Standing at a whopping 5895 metres (or 19,341 feet), less than 50% of people attempting to climb Kilimanjaro actually summit due to altitude sickness. Kate and Keith are determined to reach the summit and have also managed to coerce a couple more companions into embarking on this crazy adventure alongside them - Mark Gregory from Landform and his lovely wife Louise will be battling the mountain with them and also raising money for Perennial. The path to the peak of this dormant volcano will take our intrepid explorers through 5 different ecological zones testing every inch of their willpower and determination along the way.

Whilst we would very much like to have our KGG crew back with us at the Radlett HQ in one piece at the end of this expedition, we will settle simply for hitting our fund raising target, so please please, GIVE GENEROUSLY and help us support Perennial's epic mission and let's see our determined Yorkshireman & vertically challenged leader summit!
