Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  Unfortunately a friend of mine from Twyford died from a stroke last year.  Richard "Percy" Percival, who was 47, a local GP, played an active part in the village community and I am part of a group of Percy's friends raising funds in his memory.  Our collective target is to raise £250,000 for a portable CT scanner for the Neurological Unit in Southampton General Hospital. If you would like to know more about Percy and our quest please take a minute to visit www.percyspals.com.

Along with a large group of Percy's Pals, on the 16th June, I am setting off to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money; a trip of around 1,000 miles which we hope to complete in 12 days.  For me this represents a huge personal challenge.  In my younger days I enjoyed running to keep fit; but my knees and ankles were struggling under the strain so last year I took up cycling.  Although I have really enjoyed some of my training rides, through some beautiful English countryside, I am finding it hard work.  So far my longest training ride is a 100 mile sportive which took me over 8 and a half hours and completely wore me out.  I needed a few days to recover.  The thought of doing a similar distance over 10 back to back days is very daunting and will be a tremendous physical challenge.  I am lucky to have the support of some very good village friends who are cycling with me and we look forward to raising a glass or two in John O'Groats in Percy's memory.

I very much appreciate any support you can give.  Thank you

Kevin
