Story
Like so many families, Florence & I suffered a miscarriage this year. We unfortunately lost our baby at the start of the second trimester, after a healthy early scan. Miscarriage statistics show that losing a baby at this stage, happens to 1 in 100 women. The emotional and mental impact this had on our family has been immeasurable. For this reason, I am running the London Marathon to raise money for the Miscarriage Association.
I would like to raise money to support women and their families with life after such a traumatic experience. Everybody deals with painful experiences in different ways. Some people find talking about their miscarriage experience easier, others don't want to talk about it. There isn't a right/wrong way to deal with it. However, support needs to be more readily available for families who need it. Recently, celebrity campaigners like Myleene Klass has successfully challenged the Government, who have recently announced plans to better support women, and offer medical intervention for women after any miscarriage, not just after their third.
We are incredibly lucky to have an absolutely amazing 3 year old - Leo, who has helped both of us get through this experience, unknowingly. We have had to remain positive and move forward, purely for this reason, and without him, this whole process would have been significantly more difficult.
The Miscarriage Association is a national charity that offers support and information to anyone who is affected by miscarriage or ectopic or molar pregnancy. They work with health professionals to encourage good care; with workplaces to promote compassionate policies and with the media to raise public awareness of the facts and feelings of pregnancy loss. Their team of amazing runners help with all of this and more. Their fundraising helps pay for our staffed helpline and the production of high-quality information online and in print. And every time they mention the M.A. they raise awareness of how they can help.Thank you for your support.Share this story
