Vicky and Kevin Osbon are fundraising for the Stroke Association in memory of Vicky's Mum, Mary Slaughter, who though fit and well died suddenly of a stroke leaving the family devastated with the loss of such a fantastic, fun and vibrant lady and Mum. Vicky lost her Dad some years before and has never got over that feeling of not being able to say goodbye to her Mum and tell her how much she loved her, the sudden loss has made her feel like an orphan.
Vicky, aged 58, in memory of her Mum is taking on a massive challenge, she is looking to climb two (2) mountains over 6000 metres in Nepal in the Himalayas with her husband Kevin.
The training for the Himalayas included walking Coast to Coast 190 miles in the UK which both Vicky and Kevin achieved in May 2023.
The highest that Vicky has ever trekked is Mount Snowden at 1085m so climbing Mount Lobuche at 6,119 metres high and Island Peak at 6,189 metres high is a major undertaking at nearly six (6) times the height of anything she has previously climbed!
In October/ November 2023 Vicky and Kevin will attempt to trek/ climb to Everest Base camp (5,364m), Kala Patthar (5,645m), Lobuche (6,119m) and Island Peak (6,189m) in the Himalayas in Nepal.
All of the costs of the venture will be met by the Osbon family and every penny raised will go to the Stroke Association in memory of Vicky's Mum Mary.
When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. The Stroke Association's specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can help to rebuild even more lives.
The Stroke Association are the UK's leading stroke charity, delivering amazing, life-changing support to over 70,000 stroke survivors and their families each year. Without people raising funds for the Stroke Association they could not provide the support and research that they do. Your donations are so important to rebuilding lives after stroke. Where your support goes:- £80 could allow a a stroke survivor to attend a six week communication computer course- £199 could pay for one hour of Helpline activity- £310 could pay for the initial training and expenses of a befriending volunteer- £1,685 could pay for a fitness coach to provide stroke specific exercise rehabilitation- £40,000 funds a Lectureship Award for stroke doctor, nurse, therapist or scientist for a year- £450,000 fully funds a Priority Programme Award in hemorrhagic stroke, vascular dementia and stroke, or the psychological and cognitive impact of stroke, which would run over the course of 5 years.
By making a pledge on our behalf you will be supporting people and their families affected by this devastating condition and funding research into hopefully finding future progressive treatments.
Thank you for your help
