Story
My father has had dementia for about 5 years, which has basically been poor memory but recently (August 2019) took a terrible turn for the worst. As my DAD, the most amazing placid man you could have ever wished to meet, turned very aggressive and abusive towards his loved one's. This awful disease began to rapidly take over my dad.
I can honestly say that it has been so hard to cope with. My parents have been married for over 58 years, mum has coped amazingly and dad is now in full-time residential care for his own and mum's safety. Over the last few year, I have taken on some of the toughest challenges on the planet... but the toughest thing I have ever done is watching my dad suffer with dementia and not really recognise me. Therefore, my son James and I are taking on this challenge to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's society.
The Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
