Fundraising for Friends Of Seymour Gardens
As many of you may know I have become quite addicted to running- so I may as well turn my addiction into a force for good.
In the course of the next few weeks I will be competing in the Walled City Marathon 2016 in Derry. To help motivate me to run well and to support a local charity that is very close to our family's heart I have decided to run in aid of the 'Friends of Seymour' charity.
My mother-in-law is called Joan Browne and she is one of the most kind and loving ladies that you would ever wish to meet. A few years back Joan was diagnosed with Alzheimers- anyone who has watched a loved one suffer from this disease will know the devastating effect it has on its victims. As you may know Joan is very much an independent woman and always wanted to stay living at home but with the passing of time residential care was the only way to go.
Luckily for us Joan was placed in a nearby residential care home in Seymour Gardens in the Waterside. This has turned out to be brilliant care home with lovely caring staff who have taken Joan to their hearts- the family couldn't be happier with the care being provided.
With Government cuts there is very little financial help for the care home but there is an existing charity called 'Friends of Seymour'. This small charity provides funds for day trips, parties, tea dances, christmas pressies, cinema, bowling etc. The residents enjoy this 'break from the norm' and gain much needed stimulation at all the events held.
This little charity does not help find to find a cure for Alzheimer's but what it does do is help this small group of residents who are suffering now- this is important too and all to often forgotten.
Please dig deep for a worthy cause. Many many thanks.
Kevin
