Story
After running the London marathon in 2012 and announcing my immediate retirement from long distance running, for some unknown reason (ok it was due to a few glasses of wine) I got talked into running the Bournemouth Marathon in October 2013. The charity I’ll be fundraising for is Prostate Cancer UK who are a charity close to my heart as my Dad died of prostate cancer in November 2011.
My Dad was a great man, not great in that he was a great scientist or footballer (although he was pretty good at football when he was younger), but because he was a really kind, down to earth, honest bloke who always had time for anyone that needed help. Even after two years it’s a tribute to him how many people still talk about him for the nice guy that he was.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and research has been seriously underfunded in the UK for a number of years. Ten thousand men die from prostate cancer every year and after seeing what it did to my Dad, I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. So I hope you can all find a few spare quid to donate to Prostate Cancer UK and I’ll do my bit by dragging myself around 26.2 miles on the 6th October 2013.
