Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 10th September 2019 I was told that I had large cell Neuro Endocrine cancer which had started in my oesophagus and spread to my liver, kidneys and other organs.
There was no treatment available other than palliative care, with aggressive chemotherapy every three weeks to keep me alive for as long as possible. But the prognosis was abysmal, with a median life expectancy of between 4 and 6 months - that is to say sometime between the 10th January and 10th March 2020.
I was offered 3 courses of chemo with the option of a fourth, and prescribed morphine to help with the pain.
The RUH at Bath have sorted all of the practical medical side out for me and continue to treat me, so thank you to them.
My Boss at Wessex Water, Rob Rawlings has been hugely supportive, as have Wessex. They've already arranged a generous "whip round" for me and Wessex have kept me on so that I can go in to work as and when I feel strong enough and want to do so. Rob is aiming to run the Bath Half Marathon in March to raise money for Dorothy House and has his own fund raising page.
For my part - I spoke to my son Edd (an experienced kayaker) and we decided that we would aim to do the DW race in a canoe. After all it started 7 months from my diagnosis, on the 10th April 2020, so would be a challenge.......
Just in case I don’t make it to the 10th April we are aiming to do the Waterside Series of races on the 16th February, 1st 15th and 29th March.
