Story
Hi and thanks for checking out my page.
Firstly I'd like to thank all of you that have so generously donated, it is greatly appreciated. Secondly I had a thought, and that thought was that I feel I need to justify all the support you're offering so I've upped my challenge. It goes like this...
On the 24th August I will be taking part in a charity bike ride starting from Chelsfield to Brighton which is roughly 50 miles.
On the 31st August I will take on the Cateran Trail in Scotland, where I will be averaging around 15 miles a day on foot across the Scottish countryside for the next 4 days.
Then on 8th September I will take on Britain's 3 highest peaks, starting with Ben Nevis, then Scafell Pike, then onto Snowdon in the the 3 Peaks Challenge over 3 consecutive days.
So...
My story began on 6th October 2011, where I was on the cusp of completing my 6 month deployment in Afghanistan. With less than 24 hours left till I was due to fly home I was shot by a sniper, hitting me in my left arm, breaking 3 ribs, shattering my shoulder blade and tearing my left lung.
To cut a long story short, it was over a month later when I finally woke up from an induced coma at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to learn of the fully extent of my injuries. After a further stint in hospital I was finally discharged and recovered at Headley Court, before returning to my unit to join the rehab troop.
It was here that I was first introduced to the NFA. After a turbulent time struggling with the injury and the relevant fitness standards required to continue in my role, I was offered a respite in the form of a week away from work, surfing. I saw here how the association brought together men and women of the forces, some serving some retired but all with a story to tell. I saw how the smiles returned to the faces of these people and how their troubles disappeared in a flash.
Since then I've joined the NFA on a couple of events and they have given me opportunities to do things I'd never have expected. So now I would like to repay this in a way that I know best...as a Royal Marine, pushing myself physically, looking for the next challenge.
So I ask if you could support me in this challenge by donating just a little to show my appreciation for what they have done to help me and many other wounded servicemen and woman for near enough the last century and to enable their work to carry on.
