Story

THE PADDLEBOARD COMMUTE

FROZEN CANAL - new date Friday 12th - Monday 15th December!

I am celebrating the end of my 7 great years in the fantastic city of Stoke-on-Trent, and the brilliant, city-galvanising bid for UK City of Culture 2021, with the The PaddleBoard Commute – a 35 mile canal odyssey from my home in Higher Poynton to my office in Stoke by Stand Up PaddleBoard. Complete with suit, briefcase, umbrella and rather natty fedora!
What was planned as a sunny summertime cruise of our inland waterways has (thanks to that City of Culture bid!) become a potentially bleak midwinter struggle down the Macclesfield and Trent & Mersey Canals. But the show must go on, so please support me however you can.
The journey is designed to help Stoke-on-Trent's push for healthier forms of commuting but above all it's for my Dad and Sally's Dad. It seems only yesterday that I lost my Dad, the legendary John Bell, to Pulmonary Fibrosis. Sally's brilliant Dad, Malcolm Bennett, passed away this year from cancer.
Both were the finest of fathers, supported when they needed it most by some amazing, kind, dedicated people. So all Just Giving monies raised will go to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust and any cash donations en route to Cancer Research UK. Please give generously, if only to celebrate watching me suffer!

Media enquiries please ring 07968571610 or email kevingb9@live.com (please be prepared for a delay - I'm paddling!).

Due to a untimely freezing  of the canal #thepaddleoardcommute now begins at 10 am on Friday 15th December on the Macclesfield Canal at Higher Poynton and finishes at 12 noon on Monday 18th December at Glebe Street bridge (behind the railway station) on the Trent & Mersey Canal in Stoke.
