Did you know?
Over 800,000 people in the UK have dementia
One in three of us has a family member or close friend who is affected
Dementia only attracts 1/12th of the research funding devoted to cancer
This is nothing compared to the personal challenge faced by those suffering from dementia and the families who see their loved ones struggle with this disease.
As an NHS Physiotherapist working with older people, I am often witness to the struggles which dementia causes, both professionally and personally.
I have never done anything like this before and on the 18th July I am going to cycle a total of 120miles all in one day.
I took up cycling about two years ago and love it. I have never done anything like this before and on the 18th July I am going to cycle a total of 120miles all in one day.
My hope is that the funds that I raise will help to support world-leading research into earlier diagnosis and improved treatment for dementia.
I start from the flats of Nottingham up to Sherwood Forest, then from there up into the hills of Buxton and then back down to Ashbourne; on to Derby and back home in time for a beer! I expect the ride to be a bit bumpy!
Your donation towards my personal target of £500 will be included as part of the University Of Nottingham’s Life Cycle 5 campaign to raise £350,000. The raised funds will enable the University’s world-leading expertise in MRI scanning to be applied to the study of dementia and other degenerative conditions of the brain. Using a leading-edge MRI scanning systems thousands of times more sensitive than conventional scanning our expert researchers will be the first in the world to use this technology to understand the different ways in which dementia damages brain cells. Most importantly – this understanding will help to form effective treatments for those who you and I know and love!
How can you help? Help make this world-leading research possible and sponsor me today! Your donation will make a huge impact: http://www.justgiving.com/Kevin-Anthony1
