Over the years, my wife Mandi and I have ran and walked various marathons, and held some amazing charity events, we have raised thousands of pounds for charities big and small, that have all had a close link to me and my family.
This year I will be running the TP100 Centurian, a 100 mile run along the Thames Path, from Richmond to Oxford. I am hoping to complete in 18 hours. I will be running in memory of my uncle John, who sadly passed away in 2015, from a rare T cell lymphoma.
This story goes back to the winter of 1987/88 when my uncle, his wife and three of their four children were all struck down with various infections and bugs that seemed to be sweeping through their whole town. Uncle John slowly made an improvement, but his wife Eilidh who at the time was 38, and Andrew 15, Sheena 11, and Jamie 8 did not, they had all contracted ME, a crippling long term illness, that has had a devastating effect on their bodies.
My aunt and three cousins have suffered with this awful disease for over three decades now.. three decades of constant pain in every joint and muscle in their bodies, to the point that some days they could hardly stand or even sit for more than a few minutes each day.. three decades of constant migraines, memory loss and a sensitivity to light, sound and touch. They were trapped in a world where they could hardly even communicate. They went from being an active family, enjoying various outdoor activities, to a family in constant agony, and unable to do so much.
Where most of us couldn't even comprehend what the whole family has had to go through, my Uncle John spent most of his adult life as their carer, alongside working a full time job to support them. Now that he has passed away, it is yet another blow to the family. This is where we step in, in the only way we know how.. raising much needed funds for IiME (invest in ME) which are a non profit making charity that was set up with the hope of making changes in how ME is perceived by the media and healthcare professionals alike. They need to find a cure for this awful disease, and soon. If you can help out in any way, big or small, then press the button to donate.. Lets all help IiME to accomplish this.
This 100 mile run is undoubtedly the toughest challenge I have ever set myself, but it is nothing in comparison to the pain that Eilidh, Andrew, Sheena and Jamie have to go through every day of their lives.
Please help me to achieve my target X
