Story
Support us to find a cure for Prion disease. Prions are a group of degenerative diseases, some of the most common are Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and Gerstmann-Straussler-Scheinker Syndrome (GSSS). There is currently no cure, but every day scientists and doctors are getting closer to finding a treatment. We aim to raise funds to support the use of an antibody drug developed for the treatment of patients with CJD. The first patient was treated at UCLH in October 2018. Who knows, the research could also help with other more widely known diseases with similar symptoms.
My close friends families and future generations are at risk from this hereditary disease and there is a stark 50/50 chance of passing on the gene. The next graduate receiving funding may just be the one to crack the code which is behind this despicable affliction. Prion is life shortening and I am choosing to struggle for just 2 weeks in the hope that we can help others that have no choice with their suffering and their struggle is for a lot longer than a mere 2 weeks !
I will have my 60th coming of age just before departure from Lands End and feel obliged not to waste my good fortune of health and fitness, though I may wish I had taken on this challenge 30 years ago by the time we reach John O'Groats.
Thank you for supporting me, my friends and a very worthy charity x
