Story
I’ve always wanted to visit Iceland, always dreamed of experiencing an expedition, and always hoped one day I would be able to do a charity challenge to be able to give something back.
I have had family and friends spend the last of their days in a hospice, so have experienced first hand the important and supportive part they play in many people’s lives. St Helena Hospice in particular has touched the lives of many people I know, and is a cause I am extremely happy to be able to support. I hope you feel the same.
This is my first fundraising challenge, and my first expedition - it is an opportunity that combines two things I have always wanted to do, and in a place I have always wanted to experience. So why has it taken me so long to sign up to a charity challenge? Well, I am able to do this now thanks to the support of many people around me in helping me overcome depression, anxiety, and fear of flying, failure, and the unknown. There have been times when anxiety meant I couldn’t make a phone call, times when I was too afraid to catch a train... so the idea of flying solo to trek across a wilderness in winter was not something I thought I was capable of achieving.
I will be trekking for an average of 7 hours a day in sub zero temperatures. It will push me mentally and physically, and take me well outside some of my most cherished and well-worn comfort zones. It will also be an absolutely amazing experience in a fabulously unique landscape - something I am incredibly excited about and immensely grateful for.
I am hugely thankful for any support you are happy to give to help me achieve this and support such an important cause.
Thank You! x
