Story
As many of you now know, I was was diagnosed with eye cancer (ocular melanoma) in November of last year. I am due to go back to Moorefields Eye Hospital next month to find out whether the treatment provided in January was successful.
The eye cancer I have is extremely rare, 750 people are diagnosed in the UK every year. Whilst during the last 10 months I have been physically well, mentally it's been draining and at times a little isolating. During this period I've found a small charity, OcuMel UK, who provide support to those affected by eye cancer. For me, this community of people have really helped me come to terms with my condition, understand what my options are and appreciate that some of the things I'm feeling are completely normal.
Today I climbed Mount Snowdon, with my husband (Ben), and my best friends Lucy and Neil, who have been there for me every step of the way. I know for some this wouldn't be much of a challenge, but for me it was a huge achievement and I'm so proud of all us for getting to the very top despite the challenging conditions.
I didn't want to ask for donations before getting to the summit, incase the weather prevented us from climbing, or if I'm being really honest, we (as in me) didn't make it!!! So if you're reading this, and you are able to give some of your hard earned money to a good cause, I would be ever so grateful if you could donate to OcuMelUk. It would be so heart felt to get to my target goal before my next appointment. Thank you so much in advance.
Finally, if you're reading this, I can not emphasis the importance of regular eye checks, which is where my tumour was identified. A simple £10 Vison Express visit has potentially saved my life. Don't delay, most employers will even reimburse you!
