Story
Thanks for visiting my page! I am taking part in a few events this year to raise awareness of brain tumours/funds for the Brain Tumour Charity, which remains a charity close to my heart. I am:
- 'Wearing it out' (bandana for brain tumour day 6 March)
- Taking part in the Mad March Sprint Triathlon (8 March)
- Running the Bournemouth Bay 10km (12 April)
- Running the Bournemouth Marathon Festival 10km (3 October)
- Probably something else in between!
I have unfortunately lost 2 friends to this cancer and I will be running with them in mind and hoping that I can show even a smidge of their strength, courage and composure whilst swimming, cycling and 'plodding' around this year.
Any donation no matter how small is appreciated by the charity and will of course keep me going on the day(s).
People think that brain tumours are very rare and unfortunately that isn't the case. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40. Over 9,100 people are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour each year. As many brain tumours are not recorded, the figure could be much higher in reality. That's 25 people every single day. Over 500 of these are children and young people. 25% of these will die - one child every three days. Almost 5,000 people lose their lives to a brain tumour every year.
Despite this less than 2% of cancer research funding in the UK is spent on brain tumours. The charity would like this to change, as well as make changes to policy, research and earlier diagnosis.
