Story
The Macmillan Charity Raceday is the oldest and largest event of its kind in the country. In 2021 we celebrated our 50th anniversary and are very proud to have raised over £9 million for people living with cancer during that time.Held every June, the highlight of our activities is The Ernest Cooper Macmillan Ride of Their Lives race that sees 12 amateur jockeys ride down the famous Knavesmire course. Each year 25,000 spectators enjoy a day with us and cheer these brave riders on as they take on the challenge of their lifetime.
Mum took part in this race in 2015 raising money for Macmillan cancer for all the amazing work they do, she lost her sister and Nan to breast and ovarian cancer that was the main reason for her taking part. Mum did brilliant in the race and said it was one of the best days off her life, she kept asking me to apply which I never did. Sadly I lost my Mum unexpectedly last year so not only Am I doing this for Macmillan cancer I’m doing it in memory of Mum.
York is a special track for me as I was born in York and my grandparents live on the back straight. I’ve got horses ready to run at York, led winners up and saddles winners there. So I am so thrilled to now get the chance to ride in a race there!
