Story
With the exception of being a Mum to a severely disabled son, doing this Wing Walk will be my biggest ever challenge as I can’t stomach rides at amusement parks and even swinging too high on a swing becomes unbearable.
I’ve decided to do this to prove to my family that I’m not a complete wuss by facing my fears and making them proud of me. Considering what challenges the poorly children at Demelza house have to deal with on a daily basis, this will be nothing in comparison, (hopefully). The way I’m looking at it is doing a Wing Walk is just one day out of my life to feel scared. Terminally ill children no doubt have constant fears to deal with so it puts it all into perspective.
Demelza house has played a big part in my family’s life for the past 10 years, providing us with much needed respite which enables us to have a bit of normal family life and gives us a break from caring duties. Even a few days break from measuring out the vast amount of medication for Danny is bliss.
By doing this Wing Walk and hopefully raising lots of money, will be my way of saying thank you to them for all the support they’ve given my family and others like mine.
Demelza is such a happy place to be, that when you’re there it is very easy to forget that it’s actually a hospice and many of the children are receiving end of life care.
This challenge is such a big deal for me and I don’t mind admitting I’m really dreading it, but I’m hoping it proves just how passionate I feel towards the excellent work of Demelza.
