Story
Last march I was put on the waiting list for a disctomy by my consultant after a series of scans and a nerve block injection that didnt work
I knew about back problems and the pain and just had to manage it until the operation which I believed was fairly routine.
In early May in woke and was unable to weight bear on my right leg. Through the following 3 days the foot became very painful. The leg cold and had lost some sensation both in my leg and in my groin I was advised to go to A and E but I waited another two days because of Covid and the pressures on the NHS.
I rang my GP and was told to go straight away and she mentioned the possibility of it being CES.
I was scanned and sent for an emergency operation that day. I was lucky the A and E consultant knew what she was looking for. If I had left it another 24 hrs I was told the result could have been paralysis. That's a very scary thought.
My condition is long term and I also have another disk bulge in the same place. So I'm waiting again for an op but aware that I have to be careful not to do anything that makes things worse
It's a worry every day but I want to get stronger for the op and try and walk every day and stay positive. Thank you for reading my story.
