Story
I am taking part in the Brainathlon to raise money for Brain Research UK, Brain Tumour Research and Epilepsy Research UK.
As many of you know I lost my beautiful mum just before Christmas at the young age of 55. She suffered from Epilepsy for 34 years but this wasn’t the cause of her death thanks to the medication she was on it was kept under control as best as it could be. Although she faced many restrictions due to her epilepsy she led a fun happy life and tried to never let it get in her way.
Mum collapsed suddenly doing what she loved doing best, putting her Christmas decorations up. She suffered a massive bleed on the brain and a cardiac arrest. Mum also suffered with a brain condition called AVM. Again, she never let it get in the way of her life and it always lay dormant in her brain. She would have regular brain scans and there was never any change. However, the AVM burst on December 3rd 2021 which caused the huge bleed on the brain .
So due to the brain conditions mum had I feel this charity is a very appropriate charity to raise money for in memory of my dear mum.
I have to Walk 10 miles + Run 15 miles + Climb 1.2 miles (2,500 steps) = 26.2 miles to complete the challenge during Brainathlon Week (25th April – 1st May).
Please wish me luck, right now I have lost all motivation to exercise so doing this for mum will help me to get back out and exercise, take in the fresh air and hopefully find some of the old me again.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
