The charity I am running for is the Koru foundation.  It raises money to help poor communities in developing countries improve their health, and well being, by providing them with what we all take for granted in the UK - electricity.  The electricity is produced through a renewable source, such as wind, water, sunlight or a combination of all three. 

Theoritically the local communities which benefit from the work contribute what they can by providing the labour to install the equipment and infrastructure associated with the micro wind/hydro turbines and/or solar panels. The communities are then educated on how to maintain the devices and since the energy source is free they can become completely self-sufficient. 

I have completed various charity runs before and usually support the charities fundraising for the very worthy cause of cancer research.  This year, I have decided to do something different, by supporting communities that are less fortunate than ourselves, and by giving to a charity that works to promote the basics for communities in developing countries.

So, come on guys, dig deep and donate what you can.  Even a £1 will make me feel better about running a painful half marathon and will certainly go a long way to improving the lives of those less fortunate than us.
