Story
May 16th 2021 is the 20 year anniversary of my lovely mums death. Im shocked it was such a long time ago, as it still feels like yesterday. Mum was a one off: she was amazingly kind and patient, a talented needle-worker and cook and had a wicked sense of humour. She fought so bravely and with no complaints until she died. I'm inspired by her and miss her daily. She was 58.
Mum was originally diagnosed with ovarian cancer (the silent killer) in 1995 and died from breast cancer in 2001.
The Eve Appeal wasn't founded until a year after her death. Its now the UKs leading gynaecological cancer charity. They fund life-saving research and raise awareness of the five gynaecological cancers: womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal. £25 provides a nurse for an hour to someone who was in the same situation as my mum. Just think how valuable that would be to an individual or a family.
Throughout May The Eve Appeal want everyone to Get Lippy and Loud about gynae health to help smash taboos, encourage open and honest conversations, raise awareness of signs and symptoms and fund life-saving research as well as their Ask Eve service.
So my weekly walking buddy and super friend, Shannon Foxton and I commit to a 5K hike up Roseberry Topping on 16th May, the day of The Eve Appeals "Get Lippy Run". Its the biggest local "hill" and will be different from our normal ramble. I know its not a marathon or an iron man but more a remembrance of an amazing lady who was a great friend to lots of people and for me, just the best mum. I'm sure we will toast her at the top!
We would be grateful if you could donate the cost of a coffee, a glass of wine or a meal you haven't had in lockdown to the cause.
By making a donation, you can help stop gynaecological cancers before they start.... who knows what that would have meant for mum.
