Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Many of you will know that in my spare time I am Chairman of Vision Africa, a UK charity working with orphaned and destitute children in Kenya.  Well, in September this year I, and a small gang of co-trekkers, will attempt to get to the top of Mount Kenya to raise money for the charity.  We hope to raise enough money between us to build a new Children's home, or a similar building project.  But no matter how much we raise it is guaranteed to help lots of children.

Mount Kenya is Africa's second highest mountain and sits right on the equator.  While it is a little lower than it's sibling, Mount Kilimanjaro, it is said to be a more difficult and more interesting trek.  It's a pretty big deal for me as there's only about a 70% success rate and it's well into serious high altitude trekking territory at around 5000m.  But in my mind only a serious challenge is good enough to raise serious money, so please give generously.

You might be concerned that you are simply giving for me to have a great holiday, but that really is not the case.  I've paid for the trip myself and apart from a small admin fee from justgiving everything raised on this site will go to where it is needed - to help the children.  Vision Africa relies on volunteers like me, so there are no big overheads to sap your donation.  This really is a fantastic chance to make a real difference in the lives of many children that would otherwise have no future to look forward to.

You can visit Vision Africa at: www.vision-africa.org to find out all about the charity.  I hope you will agree with me that this is really a worthwhile cause.  I wouldn't be risking life and limb on the mountain if I didn't think it was really worth it!  You can also keep an eye on my preparation and progress at www.vision-africa.org/bobsblog where I am keeping a personal blog.

If you can give a few pounds (or a few hundred pounds / dollars / Euro's ) to sponsor me on this really tough challenge I would be very grateful.  And please send on the details of my trek and this web page to your contacts!

Thank you.

Bob.

UPDATE:  MADE IT!!! On September 15th I successfully completed the challenge.  My sincere thanks go to everyone who has supported me in raising a fantastic amount.  My fundraising page will remain open for a few weeks in case you would like to sponsor me retrospectively.  Thanks again.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Vision Africa Give A Child A Future will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
