Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. In support of the 500-mile, 22-day walk for peace by Kenya's champion athletes, which will take place 15 July - 6 August through the heart of the country's troubled North Rift Valley to kickstart a peacebuilding programme there with the Aegis Trust, I am going to run or walk half the distance the athletes cover on a daily basis for the duration.
I'm a bit out of shape, and fitting this around work, so it's going to be tough (my last attempt at a 12-mile run wiped me out!) - but not nearly as tough as the situation in Northern Kenya. Hundreds of people have been killed and hundreds of thousands driven from their homes by rising ethnic violence in the Rift Valley.
Not only is it time for the killing to stop, it's actually possible for us to help stop it. Kenyan civic leaders want the proven peace-building model Aegis developed in Rwanda, because they know it can save lives - and the dedication of the country's greatest athletes to making this happen is inspiring. Commonwealth Gold Medallist John Kelai is leading the walk, and I think you'll be as impressed as I was when you hear why on the official website (www.walkforpeace.co.ke).
All of which to say, please give generously. Your money will be helping save lives through peace-building engagement with young people at highest risk of being caught up in this armed conflict.
