Story
Born Free Kenya is back with the Walk on the Wild Side 20,000-step challenge for its second year! This initiative aims to engage the community and raise funds for a harmonious coexistence between people and animals. Help us sustain the conservation efforts in Meru National Park, where Elsa the Lioness was released.
Your support is crucial! By donating, you directly contribute to the protection of these magnificent creatures. Join us as a guardian of lions, elephants, and their precious ecosystems.
To celebrate World Lion Day (August 10) and World Elephant Day (August 12), hundreds of local community members and school children from Meru will participate in the event on the 9th of August, totalling a group of 400 strong or more! Each step they take represents the remaining lions and elephants in the wild.
The walk begins outside Meru National Park and ends at Kiutini Centre, covering approximately 8km over several hours. Thereafter, there will be talks on wildlife conservation and entertaining performances by local schools, including poetry recitations, shedding light on the challenges faced by communities coexisting with lions and elephants. Speakers from Born Free Kenya, Kenya Wildlife Service, and partner organizations will address the audience, emphasizing our collective responsibility in supporting Meru's conservation efforts.
Completing the 20,000 steps will be an extraordinary achievement, showcasing the power of collective action and our unwavering commitment to safeguarding these irreplaceable creatures. With your generous donation, we'll continue walking on the wild side, tirelessly protecting lions, elephants, and the communities that coexist with them, ensuring a better future for generations to come.
Your donation will support our mitigation techniques including eye-cow, de-snaring, beehive fences, water catchment project, predator deterrent lights, camera traps, predator proof bomas, community outreaches and conservation clubs.
