Four members of Kent Police Operational Driver Training are completing the Fire Service Method 3 Peaks Challenge (organised by the FireFighters Charity) on 24/25th June 2010 to raise money for the fantastic Demelza House charity. This is Kent Police College's chosen charity this year and we at the Driver Training School want to raise as much money as we can for them. This is why we are each putting in so much of our own spare time in order to train and get physically fit for the challenge, as we have every intention of completing it well within the 24 hours!
We want the world to know that we are competing in this challenge and therefore I ask you all to spread the word as far as possible in order for us to achieve our target - remember, it is all for a good cause. Demelza House is relying on your support to help them, especially in this current climate, so please give what you can.
The 3 Peaks Challenge consists of climbing Ben Nevis (4,406ft), Scafell Pike (3,206ft) and Mount Snowdon (3,506ft) in the 24 hours allotted time. We have a couple of drivers (Liz Jarvis and Tim Williamson) to help us out and very kindly our own Transport Services are supplying us with a minibus for us to complete the challenge.
We have already as part of our training climbed Mount Snowdon and the Brecon Beacons in preparation for us achieving our goal in the allotted timescale, and every weekend (plus plenty of evenings) the team are out training! Remember, we are the department who for the majority of our working day, sit down instructing in a car, so who better to complete this challenge than us!!
LATEST NEWS 27th JUNE:
We have just completed the 3 Peaks Challenge organised by the FireFighters Charity, and we are pleased to say that we completed it in just 21 hours and 31 minutes, giving us a sub 22 hour time, which meant we won the Silver Medal!!!!! Luke Weaver who was fourteen only a couple of weeks ago, was also part of our team, and at the awards ceremony after the challenge, he won the youngest team member award!!!
Due to a lot of hard training (thanks Clive), a lot of stretching before and after each mountain (thanks Tim), some good food, some good driving and a lot of effort from each team member regardless of the pain, we managed to achieve the following times:
Ben Nevis - 4 hours 34 minutes
Scafell Pike - 4 hours
Mount Snowdon - 1 hour 57 minutes
A huge well done to all of our team for the organisation which meant we completed it in far less time than we ever thought possible, but lets not forget why we did the challenge - please help us keep the sponsorship coming in, we really do need your help now to raise our target for Demelza House.
So please, give what you can to help us reach our target. Thanks.
The team. (Paul W, Ian C, Paul B, Clive J, Tim W, Liz J, Luke W)
