Story

During the Second World War, at the age of sixteen I served in the Merchant Navy as part of the Atlantic Convoys. I then joined the British army as an infantryman and military policeman. I came out of this experience with a shrapnel wound and PTSD. In those days the physical wound was treated but the psychological wounds were hidden away. I have had nightmares of the war years every single night for the past 77 years and I am now 95 years old.
I'm so pleased to say that these days there are organisations like Help For Heroes that make a massive difference to veterans lives and provide support when they most need it. In the world every day, men and women have to leave their career in the Armed Forces as a result of physical or psychological wounds. Your support helps them recover and get on with their lives. So far Help for Heroes has supported more than 25,000 people and they won’t stop until every veteran gets the support they deserve.
I can no longer run a race, bake cakes or do anything remotely physical. But with help from my family I can share with you my life story which I hope will be interesting and entertaining through my website at https://muress.com
