Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I wanted to raise funds for SSAFA as a way to thank them for what they did for Dad and to allow them to help others in the same way.
Dad never asked anyone for help, nor expected it to be offered out of the blue. He never spoke much of his time in the Royal Marines and never expected anything from them. He chose to enlist, was paid for the job he did and trained in skills that allowed him to have a good career after leaving.
To be offered support by SSAFA, albeit for a relatively short time after they were approached to assist, was something that touched Dad very deeply. He was shocked to think anyone who didn't even know him would be there to help. Along with the Royal Marines Association, the help they gave Dad as well as the support and assistance they gave me during the last few months before Dads unexpected death was invaluable.
Dad had become a somewhat bewildered and vulnerable for a short time. The support he received reversed that and all indications were that things were on the up and with the help he was getting he was settling in to his new flat and looking forward to making it his home.
It's comforting to know he had mentioned how happy he was in his new place. Whilst it is sad to think of what might have been, it is comforting to know that the support he received meant he was happy and looking to the future in a positive way
