I am competing in the Lanzarote Ironman Triathlon on May 22^nd and hoping to raise some money for Cancer Research in the process. The race consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 miles of cycling followed by a marathon to finish. It is accepted as the hardest Ironman in the world owing to the unfriendly conditions and the nature of the terrain that have to be faced. 

The swim is not for the faint-hearted with 1500 competitors in a mass start. The cycling cuts right through the volcano fields and includes 10,000ft of climbing in the hairdryer wind that constantly blows down the island. Then you are starting your marathon in the hottest part of the day as the sun mercilessly beats down on you. This is not known as the hardest Ironman in the world for nothing! So why am I doing it?

 In 15 years of competing in Triathlon, I have yet to have a DNF (Did Not Finish) so I am really hoping that this is not going to be the first one. I see this as the culmination of all those years and as Paula Newby-Fraser (World Champion)said - "When you've done Lanzarote you really are an Ironman!"

I thought ths would be a good time to raise some money for Charity too. We all know people who have been affected by Cancer and each time the coin spins we hope it’s not our head that’s on the top. I am running for Cancer Research as it is also the Charity of Choice for the company I work for.

So for every £ that you give it will be matched by Network Rail. Plus if you Gift Aid it every £ becomes about £2.40 to the charity.

So please dig deep and support this worthy cause.
