Story
On December 11th 2016 I was rushed into hospital with chest pains and was later diagnosed with a rare heart defect known as Wolff-Parkinson White - an extra electrical pathway that leads to fast, irregular heart beats and can cause cardiac arrest or sudden death. In the summer of 2017 I finally had keyhole surgery to burn away the extra pathway. Luckily this was 100% successful on the first try but others are not so lucky. Due to the condition not being well known, many don't know they have it and doctors can easily miss the signs of WPW on the ECG readings because they are not taught about it. This leads it to being mistaken for AF or Atrial Fibulation and therefore they do not receive the correct treatment.
By running with Purple Wave I want to raise awareness of WPW and other heart diseases as well as raise money for the British Heart Foundation so they can do more research into heart problems and continue providing support for those effected.
