Story
Macmillan support so many people and their families with their battle with cancer, and my family is no different. There are two of my family members inpaticular who I am running for Darren and Sarah.
Darren
I remember it so clearly, the day he passed away, I remember the room going quiet and the pain hitting everyone before the tears started to fall. I remember realising that I would never see his smile again, or see him ride his bike that he loved to do, that I would never be crushed by one of his monster hugs. My cousin was only fourteen when it happend, after fighting so hard the first time, and winning, the second time left him with little hope. But he kept smiling and telling jokes, putting on a brave face to protect everyone else. At his funeral the church overflowed with his family, friends and teachers. Darren's spirit touched all that knew him. Darren's Macmillan nurse was called Moira, she supported my aunt, uncle and cousin throughout Darren's illness and after. They do not know what she would have done without Moira's support. Darren will be forever in my heart and I will love him always.
Sarah,
Confident, bright and full of smiles is how I would explain Sarah. At 31 my cousin seemed to have everything she ever wanted, loving husband, 2 gorgeous boys and suportive family and friends. On 10 august last year, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, a huge shock to everyone. How could someone so young, fit and healthy have cancer? I can't even imagine how she must have felt when she was diagnosed, not knowing what would happen or how she would cope. The macmillan staff at Burton hospital gave sarah support to come to terms her illness and fight, and that is exactly what she did, I struggle to think of any other woman who I find as inspiring as she is. Her strength and determination to win her battle has been tremendous. After months of chemo, radiotherapy and operations, I am so pleased to say she has had the all clear. What an amazing lady!
Macmillan helped Darren and Sarah with their battles and continue to support others every day.
Running a half marathon is no easy feet, but is nothing compared to what cancer sufferes everywhere have to go through. I am training hard, hoping my run can raise much needed funds and awareness for this fantasic charity. please give generously.
