Story
I’m excited to be running the TCS London Marathon and raising money for The National Childbirth Trust which is an invaluable charity which supports parents through the first 1,000 days to have the best possible experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. This is done through sharing evidence- based knowledge, offering workshops and events to provide information to expectant and new parents and create vital support networks and friendships between Mom’s and families.
I personally used NCT services throughout pregnancy and in the first year of life for Carson and Owen. In addition, the online resources on child development were incredibly helpful as I navigated parenthood and learned about my baby and how to best support them.
Most importantly the Early Days Postnatal course I took part in about two months after giving birth to Carson was an absolute life-saver. I was not loving new parenthood, physically tired, and mentally overwhelmed and loosing confidence in myself as a Mom. The 5-week course was exactly the space I needed to learn about my baby and how to support them, but also ask questions and share my experience/feelings. I’ve formed close connections with the other Mom’s in the group. It was so refreshing to feel like I wasn’t alone in my feelings and other Mom’s were going through similar challenges. The course helped me to feel a little less overwhelmed, less lonely, and more confident. As a group we supported each other as we raised our little ones and remain friend years after. That kind of support is vital as a parent and I’m incredibly grateful for NCT for providing that opportunity.
I decided to run the London Marathon in aid of NCT because I want to give back to a charity which was so important to me during what I feel was one of the most difficult times of my life- where knowledge and community is so invaluable. NCT’s services go beyond what I utilised with breastfeeding clinics, nearly new sales, walking groups, baby first aid and massage courses- all set up by local branches of the charity. I want more people to have awareness of the services and help support branches to offer more and expand their outreach.
My goal is to raise £1500-2000 in aid of NCT and thank you for your kind donation.
